Fund-a-Need
In 2014, the Asian Art Museum began solo exhibitions by Asian American artists – Jenifer K Wofford, Carlos Villa, Bernice Bing, Chiura Obata, and more. This year we rewrote our mission statement to include Asian American artists.
We are committed to bringing attention to important works which often focus on, among other things, issues of identity, race, material culture, social justice, climate change, and how we live.
Support the Asian Art Museum in providing a platform for overlooked and underrecognized artists of Asian descent whose voices contribute so much to a vibrant contemporary art world.

Fund for Emerging Asian American Artists
Pattern Recognition is the first commission for the Lawrence and Gorretti Lui Hyde Street Art Wall, a 7-by-30-foot site on the exterior of the Akiko Yamazaki and Jerry Yang Pavilion. A new space in the city for the presentation of public art, the art wall will host an ongoing series of commissioned works primarily by Bay Area Asian American artists. Facing out toward the Tenderloin, the Lui Art Wall is a prominent venue to recognize local talent, raise issues relevant to our neighbors — from immigrant traditions to concepts of sanctuary — and address the Asian American experience more broadly.
